    Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin was born in February, 1809 in England. He was born into a small family that lived in small town. He was a scientist. He liked to study plants and insects. He voyaged on the Beagle around the world, but specifically South America, South Africa, Australia, Tahiti etc. He voyaged to Islands named the Galapagos. Before his voyage he never saw iguanas swimming but he saw them swim in the Galapagos.

When in the Galapagos they took tortoises to eat but when he stayed in Galapagos he was very sick to his stomach for six weeks. Before the voyage his father wanted him to become a doctor or a minister and after the voyage he was a Scientist. He loved exploring the natural world. Charles also talked to people who worked with animals and plants. After the voyage Charles married one year later, his first born child, William, was born the same year Charles published his first book Journal of Researches.

He understood evolution and he published The Origin of Species. Because he studied many of the species of the world, but he thinks that species change overtime. Throughout the voyage Charles couldn’t help wondering if the large fossils were related to the smaller live Armadillo he’d eaten. Charles Darwin was very important for science because he understood the changes to a species that happened over time and he called it, Evolution.
